CBCT Interpretation for Today’s General Dentist
Course Description
The first half of the course will provide an update on Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) radiation biology, radiation safety and dosimetry geared towards the general dental practice. We will then review a few basics of gross human anatomy with correlation to what is seen in CBCT’s. After the anatomy review, we will consider selected cases of CBCT pathology to illustrate the importance of a structured, systematic process for reviewing CBCT’s. We will spend the second half of the course using the DTX Dental CBCT viewer to review anonymized cases in an assisted, collegial format to facilitate the learning of CBCT technology. Implant planning with the DTX software will be included.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, participants should be able to:
-
Appreciate the effects of Dental CBCT radiation and overall health effects
-
Correlate radiographic findings with the patient’s anatomy
-
Recognize common radiographic abnormalities in the maxillofacial region as seen in Dental CBCT’s
